Last Dance

Inside I have to know
he was taken to dream anew
his soul spread o'fields to sow
before I can bid adieu

Peter Pan flies on the wing
Tinkerbell helps us dream
Estelle can hear him sing
Lost upon the unspoken seam

Bells will most often ring
for those of us left broken
while beautiful souls sing
without many words spoken

From dreams we all wake
he was taken from us
we remain as he watches
our hearts miss him no less

He was a moment...
we each held so briefly
for we watch the ascent
of his wonderful soul

Pocket Doors

Colors I couldn't choose
spread out over old wood
this place becomes my muse
nothing which I ever should

An old speaker wiped of dust
it plays music intrinsic to me
simple dance moves I trust
keep my feet where I can be

As the latex paint dries I see
emotional brush strokes rise
underneath colors strive to be free
earlier moments of memory dries

Sitting, waiting, in ernest fascination
smiling, stepping, my how I feel
there isn't any explanation
emotions we all try to steal
somewhere I am trying to feel
there isn't any explanation
we all just want to feel

Soft Music

Soft music helps me dance
forgotten muse lays nearby
thinking of our chance
soft music helps me try
still leaving it to chance
soft music helps me fly
head down I dance
eyes closed, tears cry
soft music helps me dance

Undress

Squelch turned too tightly
suddenly difficult to hear
nothing can be taken lightly
when shouted in your ear

Witness to the evening shine
crimes play in the darkness
sometimes stepping out of line
oft mistaken criminals confess

Twinkle stars sell the promise
soaring planes do as well
one day we can dream less
until then riots upon hearts quell

Dry wine coats parched throats
among friendly crowded rooms
inside here the emotion floats
and we all remove our costumes

After we see ourselves naked
we touch those stars and planes
forgotten are the words we've said
of those tears nothing remains

Crazy Bird

Dream rain paints deep hue
all over you

Night song splashes down
all over town

Deep thunder until morning
no warning

Hanging under this tree
can't even see

Blind until time settles down
all over town

out the window it flew
all over you

Trade Winds

Raging wolf speaks as the clouds draw deeper into their slumber
Staring upwards, moonlight outlines show so crisp against space
That's where, among stars, dreaming deeply with wonder
Full winds above us like sails of friends running the race

He sings with a voice of birds on a cold summer night full of frost
your broken heart chirps like a little girl on her rocking horse
I never ever want to realize that minds are always so lost
to realize that my golden dreams are nothing, just reinforced

Listening to such a sweet beautiful voice telling me fine words
A golden bird kicked your nest and left you lying out loud
these songs will always keep playing as long as we let them
We've learned that your sunshine is sundered deep, never allowed

This chorus breaks over and over with each filled drink
driving you home to new places we've never seen
sunsets so perfect won't allow either of us to think
drift away to destinations lost on the ships keel we careen

Then the mizzen mast splits the spar billowing full dreams
storms oftentimes act as quiet shepherds ushering souls here
away from the minds mask hiding us from the reality seams
blaringly numb music overwhelms quieting hearts fear
here we drift amongst the doldrums with naught but dreams

Emotional Walls

You spend so long on the inside
never remembering to look out
always thinking of who tried
before it was never without

No control running so fast
often falling with each step
trying hard never to finish last
speaking words with each mistep

You probably weren't listening
to what was said while running
Sweat forms sunshine glistening
with a smile breaking stunning

Each foot has found its stride
clouds form rain each day
As it falls upon us we hide
naked from our emotions we lay

Still is the pulse of the run
so many miles under our feet
looking up, warm mother's sun
staring ahead on down the street
so many miles under our feet

Those Last Miles

It hit me harder to see her than to have stepped in front of her
dissonant chords out of tune sounding sharp
the whale plays me something I’ve heard before
blue ocean melody is raining this cold April

Morning brings with it rich coffee dreams
these rising flowers soak mild sun
deep and disappearing nights steal
we all take from life less than we should

Songs that remind us of past lovers keep playing
shining in my heart beats the touch of my mother
everything was for you, always smiling
missing those that we’ve loved along the way

Can you imagine that old radio playing baseball to my uncle
intent with ears bent towards the announcers words
that is when I hear my mother’s father speak
crying out at the players as if they could hear him!

All night I’ve grown worried when morning will arrive
that trumpet colored brass wind sings outside
staring all night I am finally here in front of this moment
singing along we all start to smile to our souls

The Onion Snow

Last night, as I watched it snow,
the flakes were as large as
sliced onion, my childhood eyes
open wide with a smile

They tumbled over each other
so light, it was a wonder to me
how they could fall at all.

My dad explained to me when I was young,
so bright eyed with the fresh morning snow
he told me that Winter has chosen to say farewell
and spring will come to us in days.

My heart plunged thinking of my snow fading
So many nights racing on sleds until dark hours,
hours when my mother had me get ready for bed

That morning, that last day of Winter
I ran out one more time to play
to dance around in Winter's wonder
to dance before Spring's warm sunshine came
and took it away

In the weeks that followed I would still run outside
I would still stay out longer than I should
Winter all but forgotten, innocently spinning away

Today I'll step outside smiling
lost in my childhood memories
warm in all seasons grace
